This talk will give a general description about the LISA space mission of ESA / NASA and one of its most interesting sources. Gravitational capture of an object of stellar mass through a supermassive black hole allows us to map space-time around these black holes. This phenomenon corresponds to having a camera taking hundreds of thousands of photos of spacetime, from all angles and distances of the black hole. In addition, we can extract with minimum errors parameters such as the mass of the black hole and its spin without doing any modeling, since it is a direct reading.

The Subdirectorate of International Relations of the ETSID, when the date of the Erasmus call for the next course is approaching, and taking advantage of the fact that Professor Samir Khoshaba, coordinator of exchange programs of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Linnaeus University (Sweden), He will be visiting our university for a few days, he has organized an informative talk about the possibilities and advantages of an Erasmus stay at his university, especially in the degrees of degree in Mechanical Engineering (where they offer some subjects in English) and Master in Simulation Driven Product Development (for undergraduate students in Mechanics and Master in Design and Manufacturing Isolated by Computer).

In addition, it is a special opportunity to get to know first-hand what an Erasmus stay would be like in Sweden, since Professor Khoshaba will answer any questions asked about it.

The talk will take place next Thursday, October 31, at 12:00, in the ETSID Degrees Hall (ground floor, south wing).

Gena Prats Boluda is an Industrial Engineer and a PhD in Electronic Technology from the UPV. Department of Electronic Engineering and University Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering ETSID UPV.

Research lines: they are framed in the field of Biomedical Engineering, specifically in the development of non-invasive systems for ad-doc collection and instrumentation of bioelectric signals and their processing as well as the development of prediction systems and support for diagnosis and taking of decisions. These systems and tools have been used in cardiology, gastroenterology and obstetrics, in collaboration with various hospitals and research groups.

It is public knowledge that Columbus did not discover America; and it is well known that before Gutenberg, a few pages had been printed. The lesson here, which will be exposed by Professor Diego Vainesman, with a minimum of seriousness, is that who does not announce, does not win. This statement in no way speaks negatively of the Scandinavian communication, (or rather the lack of it), which left the Vikings without their place in history as the first daring who arrived in the new world or the Chinese as the pioneers of the mobile types. Not in any way. This dissertation explores the capacity, almost unlimited, of communication to establish a point that is opposed to the already well-known phrase: «history is written by those who win».

The true story in this case is written by those who communicate it.

Diego Vainesman, who was president of the Type Directors Club of New York, will present his particular vision of how creativity in communication allows logos, products and, why not, conquerors to be the owners of an exciting visual narrative. A small story in which Diego hopes to share something special about an ancient art, which feels very at home, in a digital and ultra-technological world in which for many, creativity is just a detail that stays in time .

Competition rules for the

Best Final Project (TFG or TFM) in English Award

Academic Year 2016-2017

1. The competition is open to students who write and present their Final Projects (either TFGs or TFM) in English at the School of Design Engineering (ETSID) between 1st April 2016 and 30th September 2017, inclusive.
2. There will be one single prize of 800 euros gross.
3. The application form to participate in the competition must be completed when the Final Project is handed in to the School’s Administrative Office.
4. The writing and oral presentation of the Final Project must be carried out entirely in English. Any accompanying documents (technical report, presentation slides, technical drawings, etc.) should also be written in English[1]. The language used must comply with the linguistic criteria of formal academic and technical English. To serve as an example, the following link, as well as similar ones, may be consulted:

5. The Panel that will evaluate the Final Project (TFG/TFM) dissertation will consist of the usual members of an ordinary TFG/TFM evaluation board; a Chairperson and two members, one of whom must belong to the Applied Linguistics Department of the UPV and teach at least one of the subjects in the area of English Language at the School. The Evaluation Panel will make the assessment for this award at the same time as they evaluate the work carried out in the Project, during its presentation.
6. The Panel’s marks for each Project submitted will be kept in sealed envelopes and held by the School Administrative Services until the end of the Final Project evaluation process.
7. When the period corresponding to the evaluation process expires, the envelopes containing the marks will be opened by the Director of the ETSID. The prize will be awarded to the Final Project which obtains the highest mark. If two or more Final Projects are awarded the same mark, the prize will be shared equally between them.
8. The decision will be communicated to the winning student or students and will be publicly announced on the institution website at etsid.upv.es. The decision will be final and binding.

[1] In exceptional circumstances, the Evaluation Committee may be consulted, via the School’s Administrative Office.

Next March 23, we will have the company TORRECID in the Technical School of Design Engineering giving a conference «Automation in the industry. Practical applications», in which they describe the common tasks of the Department of Automation and its real applications in the Industry framework 4.0.
